Crewe MP votes against the PM in no confidence vote

Crewe MP DR Kieran Mullan has now revealed he voted against Boris Johnson last night - following the Prime Minister's victory.
Mr Johnson received 211 votes in his favour and 148 against him (41 per cent). It would have taken a further 32 votes for the Prime Minister to have been voted out.
Dr Kieran Mullan told Nub News: "A lot of Crewe Nub News readers told me about the sacrifices they made during the lockdown.
"They rightly expected people making those rules to stick to them. Even if not all their neighbours were, they deserved better from government."
Yesterday morning (June 6), Crewe Nub News contacted Dr Kieran Mullan MP and Crewe Conservative Constituency Association for comment - following the trigger of the vote of no confidence.
It had not been known what Crewe and Nantwich MP Dr Kieran Mullan voted for, or whether he handed in a letter of no confidence, until 10:57am today - following a social media update.
Dr Mullan said in the social media post: "I think it is right people know how I voted. I could not support the Prime Minister.
"I came to Parliament determined to get improvements in our Justice system. This comes from growing up with a dad as policeman and volunteering as a policeman myself.
"We all come to Parliament with different backgrounds and experiences and a strong sense of what is important to us.
"No one is perfect. I know lots of people broke the rules. But people do and should expect better from a Prime Minister and the people working for him. If you are in charge the buck stops with you.
"I don't see how I could carry on making the case for us being tougher on crime if I allowed what happened to go unaccounted for."
Much of the criticism of the Prime Minister from fellow MPs, came from Partygate scandal where Mr Johnson was issued a £50 fixed penalty notice by police in April for breaking COVID laws in June 2020.
In total, 126 fines to 83 people were issued to members of government.
The Crewe MP added: "If you are on TV on an almost weekly basis telling people to behave a certain way and yet the people working for you yards away are breaking the rules and bragging about getting away with it privately, then you have to carry the can for that.
"I also can't forget the family members I spoke to when I volunteered on the frontline during the pandemic.
"The people I personally had to tell couldn't come and see their much loved relatives in hospital. I have to keep faith with them.
"For that reason the Prime Minister lost my support some time ago and I could not support him in the vote last night.

"I had no interest in being dragged into an ongoing public row about this. I think most people want me focusing on doing my job of delivering for them.
"I just did what I thought needed to be done and got on with my job of trying to deliver for residents.
"I know many people will think this is not proportionate. It is right we have delivered on the big issues like the vaccine rollout. support during the lockdowns, Ukraine and more.
"And of course the leader of the opposition is a complete hypocrite-he called on the PM to resign simply for being under investigation, but hasn't done the same now it's happened to him.
"Labour MPs lecture us about the PM not being fit when they were all very happy to make Jeremy Corbyn PM-a man who couldn't even side with this country when Putin ran a chemical weapons attack on us that put a policeman in hospital and killed a British citizen.
"But ultimately, I have to do what I feel is right and what I think is best for the country and I am rightly accountable to every single one of you at the next election if you don't agree."
"Now the vote is over I will get back to focusing on my job of getting things done for all of you."
Yesterday (June 6), at least 54 Conservative MPs triggered a vote of no confidence in the PM.
Crewe West Labour Cllr Connor Naismith told Nub News: "The boos at the Queens Platinum Jubilee Thanksgiving Service sent a clear message: The Prime Minister has lost the confidence of the country.
"Whether or not he has lost the confidence of his parliamentary party should be irrelevant in that context. He should do the decent thing and resign.
"As it is we can only hope that our own Conservative MP puts country before party and votes to remove Boris Johnson from office today when the vote of confidence takes place.
"His record up to this point leaves me doubtful he will do that."
Boris Johnson met up with his cabinet this morning (June 7) - urging them to 'draw a line' away from last night's vote.
Leader of Putting Crewe First, Cllr Brian Silvester told Nub News: This is a much worse result than the one for Mrs May in 2019 and she was gone within 6 months.
"Boris is a dead man walking and will be out before the Tory Party Conference in October."
Last night the Prime Minister told national media: "I think it's a convincing result, a decisive result.
"What it means, is that, as a government, we can move on and focus on the stuff that I think really matters to people."
