Popular Crewe town centre shop chain set to open inside former retail park restaurant

A popular Crewe town centre discount shop chain is set to open inside a former retail park restaurant chain's unit, with its current store expected to close later this year.

The Works, Victoria Street, is expected to launch on Grand Junction Retail Park later this August, located inside the former Bella Italia restaurant.

Major works have been taking place at the site, along with the former Burger Priest restaurant unit next door, since May.

The Works is expected to open its new Grand Junction Retail Park store later this August (Ryan Parker).

On Thursday 3 August, a staff member from The Works told Nub News its new store will be ready in the "coming weeks."

The staff member confirmed its Victoria Street shop with remain "for now," but is expected to close later this year.

Shelves are currently being installed on The Works' new retail park store, with store representatives overseeing the development.

Founded in 1981, The Works sells an extensive range of books, art and craft materials, gifts, toys, games and stationery.

As of August 2023, the discount retailer has over 500 stores across the UK and Ireland.

The Works has stores in nearby Nantwich, Winsford, Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Bella Italia's former Crewe unit has been empty since July 2020, with Casual Dining Group entering administration.

Shoe Zone will be occupying the former Burger Priest and Chiquito unit next door.
