Popular Crewe shop on main road closed for major refurbishment and name change
A popular Crewe shop located on a main road is currently closed - allowing for a major refurbishment and a change of name to the premises.
McColl's, Nantwich Road, closed on Wednesday 3 May. It will reopen as a Morrisons Daily on Friday 12 May.
This nine-day closure allows for interior building changes to be carried out - with the shelves being restocked for a new and bigger Morrisons range.
McColl's exterior signage has been taken down with the new Morrisons Daily sign waiting to be put up.
Several workers are currently revamping the store and organising its new stock.
Staff at Nantwich Road McColl's will continue working on for Morrisons Daily.
This shop name change comes after McColl's' West Street, Badger Avenue, Hungerford Road and Ridgeway Street stores have all changed to Morrisons Daily in the town.
Morrisons secured the purchase of McColl's in May 2022 - after it was on the brink of entering administration
McColl's was an estimated £170 million in debt - putting 16,000 jobs at risk.
Morrisons paid off McColl's debt as well as agreeing to take on responsibility for the company's pension scheme with over 2,000 members.
The last remaining Crewe McColl's store is located on Gainsborough Road. This is set to be converted into Morrisons Daily soon.
Alliance Property Holdings Ltd submitted a premises license application to change the name of McColl's, Nantwich to Morrisons Daily in April.
