A popular Crewe shop is set to close for over a week - allowing for a major refurbishment and a change of name to the premises.

McColl's, Ridgeway Street, will be closing on Thursday 16 February - reopening as a Morrisons Daily on Friday 24 February.

This eight day closure will allow for building changes to be carried out and the shelves to be restocked with a new and bigger Morrisons range.

McColl's Ridgeway Street store manager, Laura Dolman, was excited about the changes.

She told Nub News: "It's an exciting change for the team and our customers and we can't wait to reopen the doors with a new name and a brand new range of food.

"We would like to thank our customers old and new for their loyalty and patience during the changeover.

"We look forward to welcoming everyone back to our new look store on Friday 24 February."

More Crewe McColl's stores are expected to change to Morrisons Daily in the coming months (Ryan Parker).

This shop name change comes after Morrisons secured the purchase of McColl's in May 2022.

McColl's was on the brink of entering administration with just under £170 million in debt - putting 16,000 jobs at risk.

Morrisons paid off McColl's debt as well as agreeing to take on responsibility for the company's pension scheme with over 2,000 members.

Currently, McColl's still operates a number of stores in Crewe - including: Nantwich Road, West Street, Badger Avenue and Hungerford Road and Ridgeway Street.

More Crewe McColl's stores are expected to change to Morrisons Daily in the coming months.

Alliance Property Holdings Ltd submitted a premises license application to change the name of McColl's, Ridgeway Street, to Morrisons Daily on Friday 27 January.
