Member of the public hands in blade following 'positive impact' of knife sculpture
A member of the public has handed in a blade following the 'positive impact' of The Knife Angel sculpture - currently located within Crewe town centre.
On Friday 5 May, Crewe Police confirmed a member of the public had handed in a blade to be disposed of in the knife amnesty bin.
This came just two days after the huge Knife Angel sculpture was placed in Memorial Square, Crewe town centre.
Created from 100,000 seized blades, The Knife Angel is located in Crewe from Wednesday 3 May until Wednesday 31 May.
The Knife Angel sculpture is multi-purpose, helping to educate communities about the negative impacts of knife crime.
It aims to act as a poignant memorial to those who have lost their lives to knife crime.
The Knife Angel has had a positive impact within days of its temporary construction in Crewe.
A Crewe Police social media statement read: "A member of the public has brought a blade to be disposed of in the knife amnesty bin.
"This has been done because of the positive impact that the Knife Angel has had, for the short time that it has been in Crewe."
Funding for the Knife Angel project has been given by Crewe Town Council and the Safer Cheshire East Partnership - supported through funding from the Police Crime Commissioner's Office.
Crewe is the 35th venue to host The Knife Angel and currently the only town in Cheshire currently planned to host it.
A torchlit ceremony will be held at the end of May - signalling the closing of The Knife Angel.
