A political website has suggested the Crewe and Nantwich MP is mulling a move to another constituency - for the next General Election.
On Tuesday 21 March, political website, Guido Fawkes, indicated Dr Kieran Mullan MP has been putting him name forward for the Chester South and Eddisbury seat.
With former Crewe MP, Edward Timpson, announcing his intention to stand down from the Cheshire seat ahead of the next election, the likely Conservative seat is now up for grabs.
Polling aggregator UK Polling Report forecasts Crewe and Nantwich will go red at the next General Election - while Eddisbury is sitting on a much less marginal majority.
If Dr Mullan gets his way in ditching Crewe and Nantwich for Eddisbury, it won't go down well with the Conservative party.
Just three months ago (December 13, 2022), the Crewe MP confirmed he would 'stick at it' for Crewe and Nantwich at the next General Election.
A social media statement read: "When I think about what I have done it makes me want to stick at it.
"Not just to see things through like the Crewe Town Deal, the Leighton Hospital new build campaign, the Crewe FC new football facility and more.
"But hopefully to go further and achieve even more."
If Dr Mullan does switch to South Chester and Eddisbury, Guido understands he won't be unopposed.
Managing director of Iceland Foods, Richard Walker OBE, is also in the running for the seat.
The 42-year-old is seen as a strong Tory candidate, having string links to the area - including having Iceland's headquarters located nearby in Deeside.
A solid final three for the seat is yet to be signed-off - with any decision is unlikely to be finalised before the local elections.
Crewe West Labour councillor, Cllr Connor Naismith reacted to Dr Mullan potentially ditching Crewe and Nantwich - labelling it 'extremely disappointing' if true.
Cllr Naismith told Nub News: "If it's true that Kieran Mullan MP is seeking a move to another constituency while still serving as the MP for Crewe and Nantwich then it's extremely disappointing, even if unsurprising.
"It would simply confirm what we have always said about him: that he is a career politician more concerned about climbing the ranks within the Conservative party than the issues impacting people in Crewe and Nantwich.
"I hope he will reassure everyone that he will not accept a seat elsewhere while representing Crewe and Nantwich."
Cllr Naismith pointed out Dr Mullan ditching Crewe and Nantwich would not be the same as when former Crewe Labour MP, Gwyneth Dunwoody moved from the Exeter to Crewe seat.
The Crewe councillor added: :Gwyneth Dunwoody lost her seat in Exeter in a General Election and then was subsequently selected for the former parliamentary constituency of Crewe.
"This is entirely different to what Kieran Mullan is (allegedly) doing, which is seeking to swap seats while still actively representing one.
"It smacks of opportunism and wanting to avoid accountability at the ballot box from Crewe and Nantwich voters."
The next UK General Election will take place no later than January 2025.
Crewe Nub News has contacted Dr Mullan for comment on his potential constituency switch.
