The Crewe and Nantwich MP has pushed the Government for new measures to make it easier to tackle antisocial behaviour - following issues in his constituency.

Dr Kieran Mullan asked Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, how enacting Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) could be made easier.

These will allow the banning of specific acts which are not necessarily illegal under criminal law but still cause a nuisance or harm to the public.

Crewe and Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan, asked Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, how enacting Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) could be made easier (Nub News).

There are areas of Crewe and Nantwich which are hotspots for antisocial behaviour, such as outside the bus stop at Crewe Memorial Square, where groups of people sit drinking.

Dr Mullan has contacted Cheshire Police about what other actions can be taken to tackle this.

The Crewe MP asked in parliament: "One challenge we have in Crewe and Nantwich on antisocial behaviour is groups of people at bus stops, on high streets and in other public spaces drinking alcohol all day long.

"That puts off families and elderly people, in particular, from making use of those public spaces.

"In theory, public spaces protection orders should work, but they can be burdensome to get into place.

"May we meet to discuss how we might make it easier for them to be enacted in order to reduce that kind of behaviour in towns and cities?"

Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, met up with Cheshire Police chief constable, Mark Roberts in February.

She responded to Mullan, saying: "My hon. Friend is right to focus on the blight that antisocial behaviour causes to communities.

"He mentions existing powers that the police have. We are keen to ensure that those are streamlined and improved so that they are more effective.

"I am pleased that his local force of Cheshire has more police officers on the beat—316 in the force.

"Following my visit, I was pleased to meet his outstanding local chief constable last month."
