UPDATE: Man arrested after Crewe 'hit-and-run' left cyclist with 'serious' injuries

POLICE have arrested a man after a hit-and-run collision in Hungerford Road this morning (Monday) left a cyclist with serious injuries.

The cyclist was rushed by ambulance to Leighton Hospital after the incident at around 6.55am near to the junction with Hungerford Terrace.

Police say the driver of the car, described as a silver saloon, drove off in the direction of the M6.

The cyclist suffered serious injuries and enquiries are ongoing with anyone who witnessed the collision asked to get in touch.

Later this morning Cheshire Police said: "A 20-year-old man from Stoke has been arrested in connection with the incident, he is currently being held in police custody."

Officers would also like to talk to anyone who may have any dashcam or CCTV footage which may aid the investigation.

Sgt. Helen Cooper said: "Hungerford Road would have been particularly busy during the time of the collision and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anything else that may help our investigation.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who believes they have dashcam footage of the collision, or of the vehicle involved."

Hungerford Road was closed in both directions for several hours this morning while investigation work took place at the scene.
