Police search for driver after 'hit-and-run' collision in Crewe leaves cyclist in hospital

POLICE are hunting a driver after a hit-and-run collision in Hungerford Road this morning (Monday) left a cyclist with serious injuries.

The cyclist was rushed by ambulance to Leighton Hospital after the incident at around 6.55am near to the junction with Hungerford Terrace.

The driver of the car, described as a silver saloon, fled the scene, driving off in the direction of the M6.

His vehicle is believed to have sustained serious damage to the front bumper area.

Police say the cyclist suffered serious injuries and enquiries are ongoing with anyone who witnessed the collision asked to get in touch.

Officers would also like to talk to anyone who may have any dashcam or CCTV footage which may aid the investigation.

Sgt. Helen Cooper said: "Hungerford Road would have been particularly busy during the time of the collision and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anything else that may help our investigation.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who believes they have dashcam footage of the collision, or of the vehicle involved in the incident. Enquiries are very much ongoing."

Hungerford Road is currently closed in both directions while investigation work takes place at the scene.
