Cheshire Police have arrested a 14-year-old male teenager and recovered a knife - in connection with an incident at a Crewe park.

The incident on Thursday 11 May at Valley Park, Flag Lane, was first reported at 1:03pm - assisted by armed police officers, a police helicopter and police dogs.

A number of searches were carried out in the town as part of the investigation - explaining why the public saw a police presence at various locations.

On Friday 12 May, Cheshire Police confirmed a 14-year-old boy had been arrested - with the knife recovered.

The incident at Valley Park, Flag Lane, was first reported at 1:03pm - assisted by armed police officers, a police helicopter and police dogs (Alissa Cook-Gray).

Superintendent, Claire Jesson said: "While we understand yesterday's large police presence will have caused some concern in the community.

"I think it's important to stress this was an isolated incident. We have a suspect in custody and we have recovered the weapon.

"No one was threatened or injured at any point and our policing response shows how seriously we treat knife crime and demonstrates our dedication to protecting our communities.

"To provide some reassurance our Safer Streets Safety Bus will be out and about along with an increased presence of officers and PCSOs over the coming days.

"If you have any concerns you can speak to any of these officers and PCSOs. They will be more than happy to help."

A male, described as being in his teens and approximately 5ft 8 inches tall, was seen carrying a knife.

The 14-year-old teenager was seen wearing a grey jumper and a balaclava - and has now been arrested with the knife recovered.

Supt Jesson added: "We will continue to work together to educate young people about the dangers of carrying weapons.

On Friday 12 May, Cheshire Police confirmed a 14-year-old boy had been arrested - with the knife recovered (Ryan Parker).

"I would urge the public to join us in making our communities safer by telling us if you witness or know of someone who carries a knife."
