Plans have been submitted for a 'much-needed' new primary school development in South Cheshire - accommodating over 200 pupils.

The proposed new 210-pupil primary school is for Kingsley Fields in Nantwich - planned for vacant land off Richard Gibson Road.

This one-form entry school will be single storey with the exception of the hall - which will be double height.

Its design and access statement, submitted on behalf of Cheshire East Council, states: "This proposal will provide a much-needed facility to the residential estate.

"The site will house the primary school, as well as designated external spaces.

"Although the site is relatively small in area, a wide selection of sports can be provided for, such as netball, athletics and football.

"Additionally, a large selection of hard and soft informal areas have been provided for pupils to enjoy more casually.

"Two outdoor classrooms have also been provided to enhance the overall learning experience."

The new school will cater for pupils aged from four to 11 years - with space within the design for potential expansion to include a nursery.

Classroom spaces will allow for 30 pupils per room with provisions for a library and food tech room (Cheshire East Planning).

A centralised corridor has been used for ease of access to all rooms.

Although the school is not a specialist SEN (special educational needs) school, it will have provisions for SEN students.

This will include SEN therapy rooms and a sensory room.

These rooms will all be located in the same place within the school for ease of access and comfort for the students.

The planning document states: "A functioning school is paramount to the area and the need for one reflects a growing community.

A 26-space car park has been proposed for the South Cheshire primary school site, off Richard Gibson Road (Cheshire East Planning).

"This proposal provides the most efficient use of space whilst ensuring pupil needs are accounted for. Roof lights are added to ensure the corridor spaces and library are bright and welcoming for the pupils."

A mix of materials have been used in the design which, says the document. 'ensures interesting views of the school from all views'.

It adds: "Where applicable, red brick of a similar colour to the surrounding residential houses has been used to provide continuity.

"A mix of grey cedral panelling and smooth bright cement board ensures an interesting and stimulating facade for the pupils.

"Different brightly coloured panels have been used in all areas of the school apart from the school hall."
