Plans for a new 72-bed care home development in Crewe, following the demolition of the town's former electricity works site, looks set to be decided this October.

Applicant, Bloxsmart Ltd, on behalf of SH Care, has submitted full planning for the construction of a four-storey care home at the old Manweb Depot, Electricity Street.

These proposals also include a 24-space car park, associated landscaping and other external works.

SH Care proposals also include a 24-space car park, associated landscaping and other external works (SH Care Ltd).

Established in 2020, SH Care has become a leader in the healthcare and development sector, with 910 vulnerable care units currently progressing through the planning system.

For this Crewe scheme, SH Care says it will deliver a "high-quality facility" to be operated by We Care Group.

This development will provide 72 private en-suite rooms, tailored to meet the needs of elderly residents, including those requiring dementia care.

It will also include communal facilities such as lounges, dining areas, activity rooms, hair salon and a landscaped garden.

A major proportion of existing vegetation on the site will be retained, particularly around the neighbouring Valley Brook.

A planning statement on behalf of SH Care reads: "This planning application seeks full planning permission for the construction of a four-storey, 72-bed care home, designed to provide high-quality accommodation and specialised care for elderly residents, including those with dementia.

Access to the site will be provided via the existing access point off Electricity Street (CEC Planning).

"The proposal includes associated highways improvements, landscaping, and supporting infrastructure to create a sustainable and accessible development.

"Access to the site will be provided via the existing access point off Electricity Street.

"This will function as a shared two-way single carriageway designed to accommodate vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians safely and efficiently.

"An internal access road will connect directly to electricity street at the existing point of access.

"This two-way road is designed to provide safe and efficient vehicular access to the care home for staff, visitors, and service vehicles.

"A dedicated pedestrian footpath will run alongside the road, ensuring safe and convenient pedestrian access to the site from its boundary to the care home entrance."

Demolition was completed at the old Crewe Electricity Works in February (Ryan Parker).

The Crewe care home development will cater for a mix of private and local authority funded residents.

This exact mix of the provision will be determined in time through dialogue with Cheshire East Council's adult social care team.

Following a delay, the application is targeted to be determined in October 2025.
