Plans approved to bulldoze vandalised Crewe club for temporary car park

Plans have been approved to demolish a Crewe town centre club for a 62-space temporary car park, with the building no longer in a "fit state" to be re-used following vandalism.
Applicant, Mr. Paul Garry, of Gallan Properties Ltd, was given the green light by Cheshire East Council to bulldoze The Crozzy, Chester Street, on Tuesday 18 March.
The post-war building will be torn down for the temporary car park, which includes two disabled spaces.

Formerly known as the Crosville Social Club, the venue permanently closed in June 2024.
McCarthy Stone had planned to build 51 retirement apartment at the site, used as a club for almost 65 years.
However, In September 2024, the developer withdrew its planning application submitted to Cheshire East, after failing to make progress on the design of the scheme.
Since then, the boarded-up former club has been targeted by vandals to the point it can no longer be saved.
Windows have been smashed, walls are covered in graffiti and the interior is severely damaged.
A Cheshire East planning officer was satisfied with the car park proposals, saying: "The site is within the Crewe settlement boundary, where there is a presumption in favour of sustainable development.
"The use of the site has not been viable as a social club for some time, and has been vacant for over six months, although the loss is regrettable the building is no longer in a fit state to be re-used due to the level of vandalism.

"The re-use of the site as a surface level car park in the short term appears to be reasonable proposal, which would sit comfortably within the streetscene and adjacent to the Grade II-listed cottages.
"It is therefore considered that the proposal is acceptable and therefore recommended for approval accordingly."
