South Cheshire Amateur Boxing Club's new home will be at the site of Crewe's former youth club, Mirion Street (SCABC).

A project to regenerate Crewe Youth Club will receive £765,231 in additional funding from the third round of the Youth Investment Fund, the Government has announced.

The Mirion Street project is already being supported by £732,000 of Government funding as part of the £22.9 million Crewe is getting for the Crewe Town Deal.

This will provide a new home for the South Cheshire Amateur Boxing Club, allowing them to support an additional 100 young people per year.

A project to regenerate Crewe Youth Club will receive £765,231 in additional funding from the third round of the Youth Investment Fund (SCABC).

As part of this approved development, the old youth club site will be regenerated, allowing community access to the land following the devastating fire in 2014.

It will also protect the long-term success of the South Cheshire Amateur Boxing Club and improve the range of services offered to young people in Crewe.

Crewe and Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan told Nub News: "This is fantastic news that will help develop a local derelict site.

"It will also aid the amazing team at the South Cheshire Amateur Boxing Club in their work supporting young people in our community.

The need for this service was identified and supported by the police and crime commissioner and Cheshire Police, who continue to support the club.

This wider Town Deal funding will also help pay for other youth-focused projects such as the Crewe Youth Zone, and the Flag Lane Baths Community Hub project.

Both of which, will provide new activities and services for young people.

Chairman of South Cheshire Amateur Boxing Club, Nathan Clarke, said: "We are delighted the Crewe Town Deal and the Youth Investment Fund are supporting our project.

"The new facilities at Mirion Street will allow our club to reach many more young people and expand the work we've done successfully over the past 12 years."

South Cheshire Amateur Boxing Club's includes landscaping and a new 30-space car park.

Parliamentary under-secretary of state for sport, tourism, heritage and civil society, Stuart Andrew, added: "I am delighted we have been able to agree further investment for youth facilities in Crewe.

"On top of the Onside Youth Zone, this funding will give a new well-deserved home for the South Cheshire Amateur Boxing Club.

"We hope this new facility will help them go from strength to strength and I want to thank Kieran for explaining to me the importance of what they do and championing their cause."
