Plans approved for new Crewe indoor sports facility and gym at derelict site
The redevelopment of derelict land in Crewe has passed a key milestone, with a new indoor sports facility and gym given the green light.
This October, Crewe Youth Club and South Cheshire Amateur Boxing Club (SCABC), were given approval to build a brand new boxing gym on Mirion Street.
Located at the site of the original Crewe Youth Club, the area has remained derelict since a fire destroyed the facility in 2014.
The new gym will allow SCABC to expand the range of youth activities they offer.
A Cheshire East planning officer said: "The proposals will deliver a range of significant community benefits, including the provision of a new indoor sports facility.
"This will meet the needs of the existing boxing club, enabling social and leisure opportunities and activities to be provided to support the youth of Crewe."
SCABC Boxing Gym is a sub-project of the Crewe Towns Fund project and part of the planned Crewe Youth Zone.
The development includes landscaping and a new 30-space car park.
Crewe Youth Club trustee, Mike Morris, told Nub News: "Site clearance has already begun, and we are working hard to appoint main build contractors as soon as possible.
"Both clubs are delighted the project has the green light."
