A new "welcoming and informal" family-run funeral care service has officially opened in Crewe, expanding from a successful branch in Cheshire East.
Larvin & Clegg Funeral Care, recently opened on Hungerford Road in Crewe.
This family owned and run service is, made up of eight staff, and has been operated by partners Abigail Larvin and Jason Clegg, since 2019, when they launched in Congleton.
Larvin & Clegg has gone from strength-to-strength, with Jason and Abigail now also opening the funeral home in Crewe, supported by new recruit, Rebecca.
Jason told Nub News: "Our family-run funeral directors first opened in Congleton in 2019, in the belief that there was a need for a true family run funeral service in the town. As qualified funeral professionals, we believed we could really help.
"Over the last four and a half years, we have established a fantastic reputation for the quality of care that we provide to our funeral families.
"This is also backed up by our business being voluntarily regulated as members of the National Association of Funeral Directors.
"During this time, we have been blown away by the support of the community, and have become the highest google reviewed funeral service in Congleton.
"This success has allowed us to constantly reinvest, culminating in the new funeral home in Crewe.
"Living together and also working together, 24/7, we also needed some time apart! So we made a joint decision to open a new funeral home, allowing Abigail and myself to each look after a branch.
"One day, when we were driving to Crewe's Grand Junction Retail Park we spotted this building.
"We believed that although it looked derelict, it was located in a good corner location and after getting the keys to the property last August, we spent six months on and off to get this place to where we wanted it to be, completing all the renovations ourselves. It was a true labour of love.
"Duplicating what we have at Congleton, this funeral home has the same layout, wallpaper, lights, flooring and even doors.
"We wanted to mirror everything that we have done very successfully in Congleton, here in Crewe. It's light, welcoming and offers a very relaxed environment.
Looking at the services they offer, Larvin & Clegg believe it's direct or pure cremation service will most appeal to the people of Crewe.
Jason said: "We have always considered there is an opportunity for what we do very well as funeral directors, to appeal to the families of Crewe.
"Unlike Congleton, Crewe already had three or four very good funeral directors, but what we need to focus on is our direct cremation service.
"With a direct, sometimes called a pure cremation, there is no traditional funeral.
"When a person passes away, they are brought into our care, we place them in a coffin and arrange their cremation at Birches Crematorium in Northwich. It's a very simple and local service.
"We can then either return the ashes back to the family or arrange for them to be scattered."
"The beauty of this service, is that it is for a fixed fee of £1,200. When the cost is compared to a traditional funeral service, it offers a significant saving to families.
"It's a prefect service to those who really don't want any fuss.
"Of course, we still offer really high quality traditional funeral services, with excellent high levels of care, and this is represented in our fantastic five star reviews for our Congleton branch.
"But in relation to a direct or pure cremation, families can be assured their loved ones will be looked after with great respect and then cremated locally."
Larvin & Clegg Funeral Care has had a successful start since launching in Crewe, with Jason highlighting the businesses' relaxed and informal style as a strong point.
The managing director added: "Since launching in Crewe, we have already received a number of five-star reviews. If you walk into most funeral homes, you will often find they are quite dark and oppressive.
At Larvin & Clegg, we are not like that. Our funeral homes are light and welcoming. There are no black suits anywhere. It is very airy, very comfortable, relaxed and informal."
"The first thing we do when someone walks through the door is put the kettle on. We know from our experience in Congleton how to put a family at ease."
"Often, when people come into a funeral home, they are both apprehensive and sometimes even defensive.
"The best way to disarm people is to warmly welcome them. The informal, relaxed approach is our strongest point. We are here to support a family, to guide them and really look after them."
"What we do really well, as a funeral family, is look after our clients. We go at their pace and to allow them to grieve. It's our job to minimise their stress.
"In Congleton, we have made so many friends with people who were strangers just a few years ago.
"This has been achieved by always doing our very best to help everyone who has walked through our doors."
Larvin & Clegg Funeral Care is open 24/7, with all phone calls aimed at being answered within 40 seconds.
The Crewe reception is usually open Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 4:30pm, but appointments can be made outside these times whenever they are needed.
