Two historic trains will call at Crewe station this weekend.

On Sunday 14th, rail enthusiasts will be able to catch a a GBRf class 60, as it joins a train from the south.

Known as The North West Freighter, the train will set off from Watford Junction on the morning of the 14th, initially pulled by a class 57/3 diesel locomotive. At Crewe, the class 60 Freight locomotive will be added, and there will be plenty of time for pictures.

The train is expected at Crewe around 11.20am.

From there, the train will take the Folly Lane branch line to explore "interesting secondary lines" and stretches of "rarely visited freight track". It will also call at the Ribble Steam Railway where passengers will be able to enjoy a little sojourn.

The Freighter will then make for Chester, exploring more freight lines along the way, then over "an unusual route via Wrexham, Shrewsbury and the West Midlands". The route back does mean that the train will not be able to call at Crewe again on its return journey.

And that's not all - on Saturday 13th, rail enthusiasts will also be able to catch the Cumbrian Mountain Express. Unfortunately, whilst this is a historic train journey which calls at Crewe, the steam locomotive will not be added until later down the line.

It means that passengers can jump on at Crewe to catch the steam loco further on, but we won't be able to see it in Crewe itself.

Beginning at Crewe, the Mountain Express will be pulled by a diesel locomotive for a number of stops along the North West until it reaches Carnforth Steam Pool, near Lancaster. From here, it will soar along to Carlisle through beuatiful countryside, returning via Appleby, Settle, and more.

The Express will depart Crewe at 7.50am and return at 9.10pm.
