New 'traditional' pie and mash eatery set to open in Crewe town centre

A new 'traditional' pie and mash eatery is set to open inside a Crewe town centre venue - replacing a former Mexican stall which recently closed.

The new eatery is set to replace former Mexican stall, Mexicano De Jimmy , which closed down in December - due to personal reasons.

Mel's Kitchen's main selling point will be its freshly-baked pies - served with mashed potato (Ryan Parker).

"Crewe Market Hall has a wide variety of food stalls. We believe there is a good opportunity to offer traditional British food," said joint-owners, Melanie and Paul Southern.

Mel's Kitchen will be serving a wide selection of breakfast items with hot and cold drinks.

The venue's main selling point will be its freshly-baked pies - served with mashed potato.

Mr Southern told Nub News: ""We have had experience in catering for 17 years - previously running a pub in North Wales.

"We thought running an eatery at Crewe Market Hall would be something different.

Mel's Kitchen will replace former Mexican stall, Mexicano De Jimmy , which closed down in December (Ryan Parker).

"One of our main dishes will be pie and mash.

"We will be serving a range of breakfast items - including a full English.

"There will also be jacket potatoes and soups served with a fresh roll."

Mel's Kitchen will be a family-run business supported by Mr and Mrs Southern's two daughters.

The pie and mash stall has received positive feedback from market hall visitors since placing a 'coming soon' sign on its shutters.

The Crewe Market Hall pie and mash eatery will be operated by joint-owners, Melanie and Paul Southern (Ryan Parker).

Mrs Southern said: "Since we've placed the sign in the market, visitors have been asking us what pies are we selling.

"The general feedback from people in here has helped us to create our menu."

Mr and Mrs Southern believe Crewe Market Hall is the 'best thing' to happen to the town in a long time.

The joint-owners are especially impressed with how safe the Earle Street venue is.

Mrs Southern added: "We come in here every weekend and its always busy. This venue is also very safe for children.

"Crewe town centre is in a shocking state at the moment but Crewe Market Hall has been a huge success.

"This venue has got to inspire people Crewe town centre can work with good ideas."

Work and planning for Mel's Kitchen has been underway for over a month.

The joint owners are now excited to get their new eatery up and running.

Mr Southern added: "We've been working with this idea for a while now - along with the design.

"Our venue is in a prominent location within the market and we have discussed with the market management team what it needs to look like.

"We have had to change the whole concept of the former Mexican interior. The work has been going smoothly and we can't wait to open."

Work and planning for Mel's Kitchen has been underway for over a month (Ryan Parker).

On Sunday 12 February, Crewe Market Hall said Mel's Kitchen was 'still finalising a few things' so wouldn't launch on its targeted opening day.

Crewe Nub News was told the new pie and mash eatery would open 'very soon.'
