New Crewe food and drink hub development given green light for town centre

A new Crewe food and drink hub accompanied with a family arcade and social rooftop area, has been given the green light in the town centre.

On Friday 3 November, Cheshire East Council approved plans for a falafel restaurant/ coffee shop/ bubble tea shop development on Queensway.

Located inside the former JD Sports unit, applicant, Mr Tarek Abbas Adham, will construct a rooftop extension, creating an outdoor area customers with a pergola.

The former JD Sports unit will have family arcade machines on the ground floor (Ryan Parker).

On the ground floor, there will be a family arcade machines, food and drink serving counters, tables and chairs, toilets and two passenger lifts.

On the first floor, extra space will be made for the food and drink venues.

The new rooftop balcony will provide a space for gatherings and events, promoting social interaction.

Applicant, Mr Tarek Abbas Adham, of London, will construct a rooftop extension, creating an outdoor area customers with a pergola (Cheshire East Planning).

Satisfied with the proposals, a Cheshire East planning officer said: "The development would contribute positively towards the Royal Arcade portion of the wider Crewe town centre regeneration agenda.

"It would be sited within an established cluster of such buildings in a sustainable location.

"There are no material condition weighing against the proposal in the planning balance.

"This planning application is therefore recommended to be approved."

Phase one of Crewe's Royal Arcade development is now expected to be completed by spring 2024 (Ryan Parker).

JD Sports closed on Queensway to relocate to a larger Grand Junction Retail Park store in August 2022. The unit has been vacant since.
