The new rooftop balcony will provide a space for gatherings and events, promoting social interaction.
Satisfied with the proposals, a Cheshire East planning officer said: "The development would contribute positively towards the Royal Arcade portion of the wider Crewe town centre regeneration agenda.
"It would be sited within an established cluster of such buildings in a sustainable location.
"There are no material condition weighing against the proposal in the planning balance.
"This planning application is therefore recommended to be approved."
JD Sports closed on Queensway to relocate to a larger Grand Junction Retail Park store in August 2022. The unit has been vacant since.
Phase one of Crewe's Royal Arcade development is now expected to be completed by spring 2024.
