A new "authentic" South Indian and Arabic eatery has launched in Crewe, located at the site of a former breakfast bar.
Kerala Peppery, Meredith Street, launched at the end of May, replacing Big Juice's Baps, which permanently closed after four years in June 2023.
Operated by, Mrs Jhoti Prakash, Kerala Peppery is named after the state of Kerala in South India, a tourist destination on the tropical Malabar coast.
Jhoti told Nub News: "We serve the exact food you can find in Kerala. In Crewe, there are now more than 1000 Kerala families, we are now their favourite takeaway.
"We wanted to open a place for the Kerala people to enjoy, as well as allowing local residents to try new authentic food.
"We are growing our English customer base as once they try our food, they often come back.
"At Kerala Peppery, our Arabic food items include shawarma. This is not like donner shawarma you will find in other local establishments. There is the actual Arabic shawarma.
"We do a variety of authentic breads, including challah and roti. We also service Arabic rice (mandi) and biryanis.
"These two are are biggest selling items. Our specials are also popular, including chicken al-fam ,andi and fish nirvana. This is a grilled king fish, cooked again in coconut milk.
"People who have already tried it come in again and again for it.
"We also have a variety of authentic curries, including chicken tikka masala, fish curry (tuna), paneer tikka masala and paneer butter masala.
"Our food is not overly spicy. We can cater the spiciness for each customer."
As well as its peppery specials, a la carte, combo, shawarma and bundles menu, Kerala Peppery has a number of children's options.
These include peppery fries, peppery wrap, mild chicken fry and banana fritters. A kid's box includes a wrap, fries and a choice of fruit shoot.
Jhoti told Nub News: "We have lived in Crewe for almost six months now after moving from Cambridge. We have been in the UK for the past three years.
"Crewe is a more peaceful town than Cambridge. It is also a very diverse place. I prefer Crewe because it is more silent, perfect for settling down with a family.
"If you are after a party and more things to do, Cambridge is probably better.
"I encourage the people of Crewe to come and try Kerala Peppery. You will not be disappointed. We take so much pride in our food."
Kerala Peppery is open from 9am to 11pm (Tuesday to Sunday). It is closed on Mondays and bank holidays. You can order HERE.
