A family pub and restaurant chain in Crewe has confirmed it will permanently close for good this week, making way for a hotel expansion.

Brocklebank Brewers Fayre, Weston Road, will cease trading at 10pm on Thursday 4 July.

The site will be taken over by Premier Inn, who will be expanding its Crewe Central hotel across the road, with an estimated extra 20 rooms.

Premier Inn will operate from Weston Road in two separate buildings, with the closed Brocklebank becoming an integrated restaurant for 'hotel guests only' (Ryan Parker).

A planning application is set to be submitted for the Weston Road site in the near future.

This closure comes after parent company of Brewers Fayre, Premier Inn and Beefeater, Whitbread Inns, carried out a review of all UK sites.

Following this review, it has confirmed 112 "lower-returning" restaurants will be converted into hotel extensions, including Crewe.

126 of its under-performing eateries will also close, leaving the company with 387 integrated locations part of hotels, as well as 196 "better-performing" branded restaurants.

A Whitbread spokesperson told Nub News: "After many years serving the community, we can confirm the Brocklebank Brewers Fayre is closing its doors with the last day of trading on Thursday 4 July.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their support over the years and our amazing team members.

"We recognise this will be unsettling for our team members, and we are providing them with dedicated support.

112 "lower-returning" Whitbread restaurants will be converted into hotel extensions, including Crewe (Ryan Parker).

"We are committed to working hard to enable as many as possible of our affected team members to stay with us by either transferring into new roles, or by taking up other vacancies across the business more broadly through our existing recruitment activity.

"For local restaurant guests, our nearest Brewers Fayre is The Redwood in Newcastle under Lyme which is ready to welcome guests."

Premier Inn will operate from Weston Road in two separate buildings, with the closed Brocklebank becoming an integrated restaurant for "hotel guests only."
