MP ‘deeply disappointed’ as Bentley confirms job losses in Crewe
By Ryan Parker 26th Mar 2026
Connor Naismith MP has issued a statement after Bentley Motors confirmed plans to cut up to 275 jobs, including agency roles, at its plant in Crewe.
Around 150 of the reductions are expected to be direct job losses, with the Pyms Lane company citing continued US tariffs on luxury vehicles and reduced demand in China as key pressures, amid a 40 per cent profit drop.
The Crewe MP says he is "deeply disappointed" by the announcement, highlighting Bentley's role as one of the largest local employers.
Bentley's Crewe redundancies are expected to take place across the next 12 months, with the affected roles being office-based.
Mr Naismith said: "I was deeply disappointed to learn that Bentley Motors announced job losses earlier this month, affecting up to 275 employees and agency staff.
"As one of the largest employers in the constituency, I have maintained a strong relationship with the manufacturer, as well as Unite the Union and the workers they represent.

"I understand the company has been negatively impacted by external factors, such as the continuation of tariffs on luxury vehicles in the US and lower demand in China.
"It is concerning that these factors abroad have led to such significant losses for domestic workers, many of whom live in the constituency.
"Earlier this week, I met with the Unite convenor at Bentley, alongside workers at risk of redundancy to hear about their experiences and concerns.
"I am committed to getting the best outcome for workers, even in these difficult circumstances, and ensuring that every constituent at Bentley has the necessary support to deal with any changes to their employment status.
"I will be meeting with representatives from Bentley Motors in the coming weeks, and intend to work with the employer to minimise the disruption to workers, and stress the importance of working constructively with the union through this process.
GMB Union is in talks with Bentley as part of the consultation process, amid concerns over the impact on its workers and the wider local economy.
