MP and key stakeholders tour potential sites for new Crewe Alex mural

The Railwaymen Podcast were joined by Connor Naismith MP and other key stakeholders, touring potential sites in the town for a new Crewe Alexandra FC mural.
Stuart Price and David Bailey from The Railwaymen Podcast, a fan-led show covering The Alex, noticed that there was no dedicated mural to the club in the town, despite the club's notoriety in the area.
Following support from listeners, the Railwaymen Podcast reached out to Connor Naismith, Labour MP for Crewe and Nantwich, to request his support on the project.
Since then, the idea has gained the backing of local arts community organisation CreweCreates, currently working on Crewe's bid for UK Town of Culture.
It is also being supported by Nantwich Road Action Group, Crewe Town Council, Crewe Business Improvement District, the Railwaymen Supporters Group, the Chamber of Commerce and Crewe Alexandra FC.

The organisations launched a survey for fans and residents to submit their preferences on the location and design of the mural.
Results were resoundingly positive, with around 98 per cent of people supporting the idea of a Crewe Alex mural in the town.
During the walkaround, the group visited sites around Crewe Railway Station, Gresty Road, Mill Street, Nantwich Road and Edleston Road, reflecting the route many fans take on their way to the stadium during match days.
Having identified a number of potential sites along this route, the group will now be conducting a feasibility study to determine which options are most viable for a mural.
Connor Naismith told Nub News: "Sport is a central part of our culture in Crewe & Nantwich. We're blessed with a number of community-led football clubs, like The Alex and The Dabbers, who create a strong sense of belonging for so many residents.
"This mural gives us the opportunity to mark that relationship. And hopefully, we can find a local artist to further showcase more talent in our area."
The group are also looking to engage with local artists to design the mural, given 78 per cent of respondents also said it was important that local artists are involved in creating the murals.
Co-host of the Railwaymen Podcast, Stuart Price, said: "I've seen some great murals for football clubs in other towns and cities, which made me wonder why we don't have one.
"With such a rich history of Wembley trips, promotions, and the continued success of the academy, it's something we should be shouting about.
"A mural would be a brilliant way to celebrate that and showcase the club's identity, and it feels like we're now making real strides towards making that happen, thanks to everyone's hard work."
Once the designs have been drafted, the final decision on the mural will be put to Crewe Alexandra supporters and local residents.
Director of CreweCreates, Novae Baghurst, said: "It's been great exploring possible sites near the ground and seeing the potential for a bold mural celebrating Crewe Alexandra and the pride people feel for it.
"It would be fantastic to work with a local artist who understands the club and community, there's a lot of talent here, and public art like this can have a real impact, bringing people together and creating something Crewe can be proud of."
