Cheshire Police is urgently appealing for information after a Mercedes van failed to stop at traffic lights - killing a family dog and narrowly missing a Crewe dad.
The incident at traffic lights on Nantwich Road, close to Aldi, happened at around 3pm on Saturday 15 April.
Crewe dad, Michael Hamill, 57, was walking French Bulldog, Millie, to the shop when she was run over in front of him.
The eight-year-old family pet was hit by a Mercedes Sprinter, which failed to stop at the junction of Walthall Street/Nantwich Road and the traffic lights on Nantwich Road.
Mr Hamill was narrowly missed by the white van but his dog was killed instantly - with blood splattered everywhere and witnesses crying.
On Monday 17 April, Cheshire Police confirmed the incident to Nub News.
A spokesperson said: "At 3pm on Saturday 15 April police were called to reports of a collision near to Aldi, on Nantwich Road, Crewe.
"The caller reported that a dog had been hit by a white transit van at the traffic lights.
"Sadly the dog died as a result of the collision.
"The driver of the van failed to stop at the scene."
Mr Hamill's daughter, Toni Hamill, 23, was left devastated by the hit-and-run incident.
The Shavington resident told Nub News: "The traffic lights were on red with the pedestrian crossing beeping - it could have been anyone who died.
"It was so close to being my dad, we are just thankful he is here.
"People even came rushing out of the nearby nail shop after hearing the bang. There is no way the driver didn't know he had hit something.
"The family dog is a huge part of our lives and it's devastating the driver's going to get away with it."
The driver of the Mercedes Sprinter had come from Stalbridge Road before turning left on to Walthall Street and right on to Nantwich Road.
Cheshire Police's spokesperson added: "Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing.
"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, or by visiting the website, quoting IML 1524589."
