A popular Crewe 'community' fish and chip shop has been 'forced' to permanently close down - after more than a decade of trading in the town.

The Fish Bar, West Street/Sunnybank Road, switches its fryers on for the last time on Saturday 15 April - permanently closing at 8pm.

Crewe's previously award-winning takeaway unit is set to be taken over by another business - that won't be a chip shop.

"I am sad to see this chip shop go. We have developed a large amount of customers and friends here over the years, said owner, Craig Buckley.

The Fish Bar started out in 2009 when Mr Buckley purchased a run down, closed fish and chip shop, on Alton Street.

The shop owner followed this up by expanding The Fish Bar to its second unit on West Street/Sunnybank Road in 2011.

Mr Buckley sold the Alton Street unit in 2014, with the business focusing on its West Street store.

The Fish Bar owner told Nub News: "This unit won't be a chip shop again.

"Some of our staff have taken us up on the offer to work at our Knutsford store, Hooked On The Heath.

"It's sad we are closing. Crewe customers can enjoy our food until close on Saturday."

Mr Buckley is enjoying success with his businesses' touring van, Fish Bar On Wheels - which launched in 2016.

Hooked on the Heath also continues to be a success - with a rating of 4.3/5 from 247 reviews on Google.

The Fish Bar confirmed its Crewe business closure on Wednesday 12 April with an official announcement on social media.

the Fish Bar owner, Craig Buckley, also operates Hooked On The Heath, Knutsford (Google).

A statement read: "It is with a heavy heart that The Fish Bar will switch on its fryers for the last time on Saturday 15th April at 4:30pm. At 8pm we will then close for good.

"The closure of the shop has not been a decision that has been taken lightly, but is one that has ultimately been forced upon us ,by circumstances out of our control involving future plans of our site.

"The Fish Bar has been part of the community for years and we've always been fiercely proud to serve our loyal customers from both near and far.

"We are thankful that with our other business interests we are able to offer our staff vacancies elsewhere.

The Fish Bar confirmed its Crewe business closure on Wednesday 12 April with an official announcement on social media (Google).

"Everyone at The Fish Bar would like to thank you for your custom and whilst the shop may be closing our mobile fish and chip van will continue to operate. We hope to see you all soon."

The chip shop closure comes The Fish Bar was handed a five-star food hygiene rating in March.
