McDonald's has been given the green light for new electric vehicle charging stations on one of its Crewe restaurant car parks - replacing two existing spaces.

On Friday 28 April, Cheshire East Council approved InstaVolt's plans to install two new rapid electric vehicle charging stations on McDonald's Car Park, Dunwoody Way.

The UK electric vehicle charging network operator will now replace two existing McDonald's car park spaces with EV charging bays - along with associated equipment.

On Friday 28 April, Cheshire East Council approved InstaVolt's plans to install two new rapid electric vehicle charging stations on McDonald's Car Park, Dunwoody Way (Nub News).

InstaVolt will install extra bollards around the charging bays to protect the equipment.

Tarmac will also be extended within the site boundary to match the existing car park.

A Cheshire East planning officer was satisfied with the proposals - believing the charging points would not negatively impact the area's character or appearance

A statement read: "The proposal would not result in any adverse impact on the character and appearance of the area, the amenities of the neighbouring properties or highway safety.

"It is therefore recommended that the application be approved."

This news comes days after McDonald's purchased a Crewe Market Shopping Centre Car Park site for £1.4 million - previously approved for a Burger King drive-thru.

The fast-food giant acquired land on the corner of West Street and Vernon Way from Real Estate Investors (REI) .

McDonald's plans to open its third Crewe drive-thru restaurant in "late" 2023.

The new restaurant will feature indoor and outdoor seating, plus on-site car parking spaces for customers and staff.

It will include disabled spaces, electric vehicle charging points and cycle parking.

On April 22, McDonald's confirmed the £1.4 million purchase to Nub News - but refused to answer specific questions about it.

A McDonald's spokesperson told Nub News "I have heard back from the estates team.

"The only update we can share is that we're looking forward to opening the new restaurant late this year."
