A Crewe alleyway filled with fly-tipping waste has been transformed - thanks to the work of a community payback team and local MP.

Crewe & Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan, joined a community payback team tackling fly-tipping in an alleyway on Edleston Road/Brooklyn Street.

A hot spot for fly-tipping in the Crewe South alleyway had formed on a recess on to some private land.

Dr Mullan and the team were helped in their efforts by a local construction company who worked with a landlord to organise a tip and put in place fencing - aiming to deter future fly tipping.

The landlord agreed to fund a skip and the erection of fencing to tackle the issue.

More than a dozen individuals participating in community payback helped clear the area so the fence could be built.

An entire skip of fly-tipped waste was removed by the community payback team with help from Crewe Town Rangers and the fence built the next day by a team from RTS Tree Specialists.

Dr Kieran Mullan was pleased with the Crewe alleyway renovation - calling it a 'big team effort.'

The Crewe MP said: "It was great to be able to work with Cheshire East to secure the support of community payback teams to help with the ongoing alleyway work locally.

"This effort shows the kind of difference it can make.

"I hope it is a tangible example of our justice system asking people to pay back local communities in a meaningful way.

"A huge thanks to RTS Tree Specialists and to the responsible landlord who also put his money where his mouth was to tackle the fly tipping at this location.

"Thanks to ANSA and the rangers and Cheshire East-this was truly a great big team effort.

"This is a huge ongoing problem we won't fix overnight but we have a lot of determined partners trying to work with residents to get an improvement."

The alleyway work was done as part of the Cheshire East, Crewe Town Council, ANSA and Friends of Crewe South 1 Alleyways Cleaner Crewe Project - who also joined the session.

James Weekes from RTS Tree Specialists said: "Our company always wants to be part of the communities we work in and as we expand our operations locally we want to do the same in Crewe and across the patch.

"This was a great way for us to make the most of our skills to help local residents tackle a challenge.

"Thanks to Kieran for suggesting it to us and to all the partners who have been so brilliant to work with."
