A fast-food restaurant in Crewe has finally reopened to the public - following a month of works and 'mayhem' at the town's other outlet.

McDonald's, Dunwoody Way, officially reopened at 11am today (October 13).

The drive-thru fast-food franchise, which opened in 2015, was closed for refurbishment works - lasting approximately one month.

The drive-thru fast-food franchise was closed for refurbishment works - lasting approximately one month (Crewe Police).

This closure took place during the busy McDonald's Monopoly sales promotion period - running from September 7 to October 18.

All in-store, drive-thru and online orders have been taking place at Crewe's only other McDonald's restaurant on Macon Way - two miles away.

Why was McDonald's Dunwoody Way closed?

On May 23, McDonald's submitted a planning application to remove and install new windows, create a new access door, new dry store, new bin store and install new fencing.

This also included associated works around the site.

McDonalds' planning application was approved on 31 August (Cheshire East Planning).

Cheshire East Planning Department approved this application on 31 August.

The case planning officer concluded: "The proposed development is considered to be of acceptable design and would not adversely impact upon the amenities of neighbours."

Work commenced on the site two weeks later and was completed on October 13.

Beth Jackson, from Crewe, said: "I was a customer in the shop a couple of days ago and it was mayhem.

"There was lots of shouting and pushing forwards.

"I never realised how much demand there was for a Maccies."

All in-store, drive-thru and online orders had been taking place at McDoanld's, Macon Way (Ryan Parker).

Local resident, Sarah Symonds, added: "They've not had Big Macs on Thursday (September 22) or Sunday (September 25)."

The reopening of the Dunwoody Way McDonald's outlet will now take the strain off Macon Way.
