A major retailer is returning to Crewe town centre, with Argos set to open a new store in the former Iceland unit at The Market Shopping Centre.

The retailer's return was teased by The Market Shopping Centre on 25 September.

The shopping centre said: "A familiar favourite is on it's way back to The Market Shopping Centre.

"Keep your eyes on our socials for more details."

Argos previously had a store in Crewe town centre, which closed in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The retailer is now set to return to the town after almost seven years, taking on a unit vacant since September 2023.

Iceland was in Crewe town centre unit for over 30 years before closing, as part of a long-term company vision to focus on Food Warehouse stores.

Nub News has contacted Argos for comment and further details about the planned store, including when it is expected to open.

Argos' shift into smaller scale stores with commonly bought items, with everything else being effectively click+collect only, makes the move into the old Iceland store make sense. It's a much smaller footprint, even if the actual retail space will be just a handful of tills and order screens (if it's anything like the one in Nantwich Sainsburys that is). Still, it'll get the job done and mean I don't have to go to Nantwich to pick stuff up.

Also Chipper1507 I agree with you that we need a Wilko replacement. The Range has largely picked up that mantle, and there is a conspicuous gap in Cheshire and East Shropshire on their store map surrounded by stores in Stoke, Stafford, Telford, Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Wrexham and Chester. Crewe and Nantwich smack bang in the middle of that gap!

Great , won't have to go right round the Wreakin , get the🎄 Crissey Pressies 🤔👌 .

Yippee 👏 at last there's light at the end of the tunnel.

It's a start,need a few more branded names. The Range,Deichman shoes,even Primark hopefully.
The old Wilko store is ideal.
