Fortune City has opened on Nantwich Road, with a big menu, generous portions and plenty of fresh Chinese dishes to choose from.

I visited the new restaurant and started with the special appetiser combination plate for two.

While waiting for the food, we were brought prawn crackers, which was a nice touch.

The appetiser plate came with barbecued spare ribs, skewered satay chicken, sesame prawn on toast, steak rolls in black pepper sauce, crispy seaweed, spring rolls and two sauces.

It was the right size for two people, with a good variety of flavours and textures. Everything tasted fresh and it was a very tasty start to the meal.

For the main course, I ordered the king prawn curry with egg fried rice.

The curry had a thick, rich sauce with plenty of onion and was full of flavour. The prawns were literally 'king' size and there was plenty on the plate.

The egg fried rice was fresh and well cooked, with a good texture and enough flavour to work well alongside the curry.

Portions are one of the first things you notice at Fortune City. They are well sized and generous without compromising on the food.

The crispy shredded chilli chicken was another highlight. It was fresh, crispy and exactly what you would expect from the dish, with a medium level of spice.

Again, the portion was very generous.

We also tried the noodles, which had a lovely onion flavour and a good mix of vegetables.

There is plenty of variety across the menu.

Starters include dim sum, dumplings, spring rolls, ribs and soups, while the main courses cover chicken, beef, duck, char siu, seafood and vegetarian dishes.

Seafood options include king prawns, scallops and squid, with sauces ranging from garlic and black bean to Szechuan and sweet and sour.

There are also familiar favourites such as chow mein, fried rice, vermicelli and salt and pepper chips.

For larger groups, 'Special Banquets' are available, with set menus ranging from £26 to £33 per person.

Inside, the restaurant has an authentic Chinese feel.

Much of the traditional decor has been brought across from the former Fortune City in Holmes Chapel, giving the new Crewe restaurant an established feel despite only just opening.

The lighting strikes the right balance. It wasn't too bright or too dark, while quiet music played in the background.

The staff were welcoming, attentive and experienced. Service was relaxed without being intrusive, and there was always someone available when needed. It was also good that they know Crewe well.

To finish, I had the banana fritter with ice cream.

It was sweet and delicious, with the warm fritter working well alongside the cold ice cream. A simple but very satisfying way to finish the meal.

Overall, Fortune City offers fresh, full-of-flavour food, generous portions and plenty of choice.

The combination of the appetiser plate, substantial mains and attentive service made for a very enjoyable meal.

Fortune City seats around 70 people and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 5pm to 10pm, closing on Mondays. It is cash only until October.
