Developer Seddon Homes plans to transform the Hunters Lodge Hotel site - just over a year after the venue closed from pandemic struggles.

The 64-home development would see the construction of 36 three-bedroom houses, 12 four-bedroom houses and 16 one-bedroom flats on the six acre site.

Of these homes, 19 are expected to be for social rent or shared ownership.

Owners of the Hunters Lodge Hotel, Andy and Nicky Panayi operated the venue for almost 40 years between 1981 and 2021.

Following the closure last year Mr Panayi posted on its Facebook page: "It is with great sadness that Nicky and I have made the decision to sell Hunters Lodge Hotel.

"To all our wonderful guests, thank you for your support over the years."

The Covid pandemic had a devastating impact on the family-run business - forcing the owners to sell to a housing developer.

"The local community have been fantastic and we have been honoured to serve and be a part of that," said Mr Panayi.

"Once again thank you for your wonderful support over the years."

A six-bedroom care home with 24-hour care is also planned for the site, alongside 12 apartments that would provide an independent living space for people with learning disabilities.

This would create approximately 50 new jobs.

A number of local residents had weddings and parties booked for the summer of 2021 - they were never able to have them at the hotel.

Joey Dunn from Crewe, posted on social media last year: "Myself and my wife have our wedding party booked there. We had paid the whole thing off."

Liz Washington, also from Crewe posted on social media: "That's very sad. I have had many a wonderful time in there.

A 68-home plan for this site was scaled back due to the impact on green space in the area.

Revised plans with more green space were submitted to Cheshire East Planning in March this year.

The architect for this scheme is Woodcroft Design with WSP as the planning consultant.

Cheshire East Council's planning committee is expected to discuss the plans on 25 May.
