An old club in the 'West End' of Crewe will be converted into a coin-operated launderette - aiming to reduce the amount of vacant units in the area.
A Mr G. Eardley will convert the former West Street Band Club into a launderette - after Cheshire East Planning approved the change of use on March 31.
The site compromises an existing two and half storey building, with the 300 sq ft ground floor currently left as an unused bar.
This development is aimed at maximising the use of existing infrastructure and resources within Crewe.
The plan proposes that there will be only one external alternation - an Internal vent will be installed onto the courtyard to serve the tumble dryers.
It is deemed that the character of the area will not be significantly impacted by the design.
No proposed changes to the parking and access arrangements have been made.
In 2012, The West End Band Cub was approved by planning to be converted into a ground floor shop with apartments on the upper floors. It never materialised and the club continued to be run later into the decade.
The private venue had a wide music history, once called the West End Silver Band Club - originating from a brass band group of players.
It was once extremely popular among locals - even holding wedding receptions in the 1950s.
The club continued to host events, including tribute acts - until it permanently closed nearly five years ago.
Former visitors to the Crewe venue have positive memories.
A Mr Macdonald posted on social media: "Me and my uncle used to play in there and practice upstairs on Tuesday and Friday nights.
He added: "Lots of other great people, great old days."
In 2017, a Mr Roger Harvey from Shrewsbury rated the West End Band Club highly on social media: "A Great place. Always made to feel welcome by regulars and bar staff."
A visit to the former bar was undertaken by a case officer in November 2021.
Last month, the case officer concluded that the proposed development would be of an acceptable design that would not have a detrimental impact upon the neighbouring amenity of highway safety.
Mr Eardley is permitted to commence the development by March 31, 2025.
Construction/demolition work has been ordered to take place between the hours of 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 2pm on Saturdays.
