FIREFIGHTERS pulled a lorry driver from the carriage of his HGV after it hit a tree on Crewe Road late last night.
The collision happened just before 11pm and two fire engines from Crewe Fire Station attended the incident, which saw the road closed off in both directions near to its junction with Rope Lane.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "The HGV had collided with a tree. The 36-year-old driver was assessed by paramedics after sustaining injuries believed to be minor.
"He was then safely extricated from the lorry."
Crews used absorbent pads to stem oil that was leaking from the vehicle, while Crewe Road was closed in both directions.
With the cold snap in the region set to continue with driving conditions difficult Cheshire Police have issued a warning about only making necessary journeys.
A police spokesman said: "The county is under a yellow warning from the Met Office for snow and ice is a problem on some local roads. If you're out please keep safe and leave more time for your journey, drive to the conditions, leave more space between vehicles and check the forecast."
