Fire crews tackle blaze at 19th-century Crewe hotel
Fire crews tackled a serious blaze at a Victorian hotel close to Crewe Railway Station, believed to have been caused by a tumble dryer fault.
On Thursday 11 April, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to an incident at The Royal Hotel, Nantwich Road.
At 8:33pm, two fire engines from Crewe arrived at the scene, tackling a blaze which had started to spread.
Firefighters put out the fire and removed a tumble dryer from the hotel building.
A high-pressure fan was used to clear the residual smoke.
No one was injured at the 36-bedroom hotel, with no suspicious circumstances surrounding the blaze.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews were sent to a report of a fire involving a tumble dryer.
"They put out the fire and removed the dryer from the building.
"A high-pressure fan was then used to clear the residual smoke. There were no casualties reported."
The Royal Hotel has been closed to the general public for around 18 months, with it being used temporary housing for asylum seekers.
