Famous Crewe musician, Paul Spencer, dies of cancer aged 53

Famous Crewe musician, Paul Spencer, known for 90s dance hit "Sunchyme," has sadly died from rectal cancer, aged 53.

Paul rose to fame in 1997 as part of the Cheshire dance trio, Dario G, named after former Crewe Alexandra manager, Dario Gradi.

Alongside Scott Rosser and Stephen Spencer, Paul hit the big time with debut single "Sunchyme" - reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart.

In June last year, Paul gave a shock social media statement, announcing he had been diagnosed with stage four rectal cancer.

On Monday 17 June, it was announced Paul had sadly passed away from the disease that morning.

A social media statement for Dario G, paid tribute to the musician, saying: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Paul Spencer earlier today.

"He was positive until the end but this was one battle he could not fight anymore.

"He leaves behind a wonderful musical legacy and many happy memories for many people.

"He will be sadly missed by everyone who loved him. Shine bright our big star."

Dario G also enjoyed the success of 1998 single "Carnaval de Paris," peaking at number five.

Paul released 15 singles and three albums under the group, with the most recent being "Hola" in June 2020.
