Owner and manager at United Carpets, Eddie Davies, is celebrating 15 years at the Nantwich Road flooring store this weekend.

In that time, Eddie has seen trends change and come back around again.

He told Nub News: "When I started here in 2010 all of the neutrals were cream or beige, I was never asked about greys. Then in 2014/15 everything changed to grey, and now beige is starting to make comeback."

Assistant manager, Gavin Chesters, has worked with Eddie since 2010. Two years ago they were joined by Gavin's son, Connor.

When asked what his highs of the last 15 years were, Eddie said: "No one big thing stands out, but I think getting repeat business is huge.

"It is great when someone comes back in to have a room or even the whole house re-done after a few years, or they bring family or friends in!"

"As a low point, Covid, obviously. Absolutely no-one wants to close up their business, especially when it is bursting with stock and you don't know when, or at the time if, it was going to re-open."

Although a life-long Liverpool supporter, Eddie takes a keen interest in Crewe Alexandra.

"With the Mornflake Stadium being just around the corner you get quite involved," he said, "especially on match days, when there is a home goal you can hear the cheering even with the doors closed."

Eddie is a huge music fan, and if he's away from the shop when you call in there's a good chance he's gone somewhere to see a live band.

He said: "This year my wife and I have seen Bruce Springsteen, The Waterboys, Bryan Adams, Pulp, and AC/DC, as well as local live bands in various pubs and clubs.

"Local rocker Oli Ng is a favourite, plus we share a love of Liverpool, Springsteen, and Gaslight Anthem."

Eddie and his wife have expanded their family in the last 15 years too, having been joined by two dogs since he took over the store.

Max, an Australian Kelpie cross they adopted as a one-year old in 2016, and Betsi, an eight year old Staffie who joined the family last year.

What asked what's next, Eddie added: Nothing dramatic. I will continue to find the best flooring at a great price, and look forward to greeting customers old and new."

United Carpets is open 9am to 6pm (Monday to Wednesday) 9am to 8pm (Thursday), 9am to 6pm (Friday and Saturday) and 10.30am to 4.30pm (Sunday).
