A dog, not believed to be an XL bully, has been shot dead by Cheshire Police, after attacking a woman and man as well as officers in Crewe.

On Friday 28 February, Cheshire Police were alerted to a serious dog attack at an address on Davenport Avenue.

Around 11.50am, local officers, supported by the constabulary's firearms unit, attended the scene, discovering a woman and man had been injured.

The woman was most severely injured in the dog attack, sustaining serious lacerations and injuries to her right arm and thigh (Google).

The woman sustained serious lacerations and injuries to her right arm and thigh and was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The man sustained minor injuries to his arms and hands.

The dog was destroyed by officers outside of the Crewe South address.

Enquiries to establish the full circumstance surrounding the incident are ongoing, with officers remaining in attendance at the scene.

Superintendent, Gareth Wrigley, told Nub News: "We understand the level of concern these incidents cause and I would like to reassure members of the public that we are satisfied that, at this stage of our enquires, the dog was not an XL bully.

Enquiries to establish the full circumstance surrounding the dog attack incident are ongoing (Cheshire Police).

"However, in this instance, the judgement of attending officers determined that the dog in question posed a further risk to members of the public, having already injured two people, as well as officers themselves and it was subsequently destroyed at the scene.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us, or call 101, quoting IML-2037110."
