Crewe Alexandra have released four players and offered contracts to seven in their 2023 retained list - with the club captain triggering a clause for an extension.

On Monday 15 May, Crewe confirmed winger, David Amoo, and defender, Sean Lawton were leaving the club - along with first-team regulars Callum Ainley and Kelvin Mellor.

Amoo, 32, struggled with injuries since signing for Crewe from Stevenage in January - making just seven appearances.

Lawton, 19, made his debut for The Railwaymen in March 2022, away to Sunderland - but only featured one more time for the club since.

Crewe have offered contracts to key players in the squad, including the club's 2022/23 top scorer, Dan Agyei.

The 25-year-old featured in every EFL League Two match this season - scoring on 16 occasions.

Crewe Alexandra 2022/23 Player of The Season, Rod McDonald has been offered a new deal, along with Tariq Uwakwe and Charlie Finney.

Forward, Chris Long, 28, was offered fresh terms after scoring three times following his return from a. long-term injury.

18-year-old goalkeeper, Tom Booth, has also been offered fresh terms after breaking through into the starting eleven towards the end of the campaign.

Young prospect, Lewis Billington, was also handed a new contract - with the 19-year-old aiming to break into the first-team in 2023/24.

Crewe confirmed goalkeeper, Dave Richards, 29, and defender, Billy Sass-Davies, 23, have been made available for transfer.

Discussions surrounding the contract of forward, Bassala Sambou, are currently ongoing.

Academy scholars, Zak Kempster-Down, 18, Owen Lunt, 18 and Max Woodcock, 17 have been handed their first professional contracts.

Loan players, James Beadle (Brighton), Lachlan Brook (Brentford), Ryan Finnigan (Southampton) and Sean Robertson (Forest Green) have returned to their clubs.
