A huge free Crewe Pride event will take place in Crewe town centre this weekend - despite reports of "criminal damage" to multiple advertising boards across the town.

Crewe Pride will take place in the town centre's newly-developed LY2 events and performance space, Lyceum Square, on Saturday 8 July.

Running from 1:30pm until 10:30pm, the free event will celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and raise awareness of the issues they face.

Over the past week, eight Crewe Pride festival advertisements boards have been vandalised on Crewe Road, Emperor Way and Pyms Lane.

This criminal damage has been slammed by LGBT projects officer at Body Positive and member of the planning committee for this year's Crewe Pride, Colin Avery.

Mr Avery remains in high spirits for the event - labelling those responsible "prehistoric pillocks."

He told Nub News: "Despite the actions of some prehistoric pillocks punching through some Pride promo's on Pyms Lane, this year's Crewe Pride will be sashaying forth with a fabulous line-up of acts and activities.

"This is all kicked into action with a parade through Crewe town centre starting at 1:30pm on July 8."

Crewe Pride is sponsored by Radius, Bentley, Crewe Town Council, Cheshire East and Body Positive (Radius).

This parade, led by host, Jonathan Mayor, will begin in Crewe Municipal Square.

Paraders will then be welcomed into Lyceum Square by Dame Dolly in the 'Be Proud Bentley' - who will open this year's pride performance.

This performance will be followed by CHERished, Elvesse, Kyle Finn, Abba Fever and Pink tribute act, Vicky Jackson.

There will be over 20 stalls from local organisations and businesses showcasing their work and their commitment to equality - including an on-site bar.

Chair of Radius' LGBTQ+ network, Andrew Weston, added: "It's great to be able to play a part in celebrating Pride across Radius' hometown of Crewe.

"It is fantastic to see our local community come together to support and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

"We are looking forward to seeing Radius employees and the local public having fun and enjoying the range of performances."

The full line-up on Saturday 8 July includes:

  • 1.30pm - 2pm - Parade from Lyceum Square
