Crewe man jailed after 'assaulting a constable' in town centre disturbance
A Crewe man has been jailed for nine weeks after pleading guilty to "assaulting a constable" - following a town centre "disturbance."
The assault happened outside a betting shop on Market Street, Crewe, around 7pm on Sunday 2 July.
Two men were arrested at the scene in relation to the incident.
Benjamin Frank Hargreaves, 34, of Lord Street, was since charged with assaulting a constable.
He appeared at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 4 July - pleading guilty to the offence.
Hargreaves was sentenced to nine weeks in prison and ordered to pay £160 compensation.
The second arrested man, from Alsager, has been released without charge.
On Tuesday 4 July, Cheshire Police confirmed the incident to Nub News.
A spokesperson said: "At around 7pm on Sunday 2 July police were called to a disturbance outside a betting shop on Market Street, Crewe.
"Police attended and arrested two men in relation to the incident.
"Benjamin Frank Hargreaves, 34, of Lord Street, Crewe, has since been charged with assaulting a constable.
"He appeared at Crewe Magistrates on Tuesday 4 July, where he pleaded guilty to the offence.
"He was sentenced to nine weeks in prison and ordered to pay £160 compensation.
"The second man, a 31-year-old from Alsager, has been released without charge."
