Crewe's Queens Park has retained its Green Flag and Green Heritage Site status for 2024 (Ryan Parker).

Crewe's Queens Park has retained its Green Flag and Green Heritage Site status for 2024, with two other parks in Cheshire East achieving the same feat.

The Green Flag Award is an international quality 'kitemark' for parks, green spaces and beaches.

Such awards are made each year by charity, Keep Britain Tidy, under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLHC).

Queens Park officially opened to the public in June 1888. It has been a key attraction in Crewe ever since (Ryan Parker).

On Tuesday 13 August, Cheshire East confirmed, Queens Park, alongside Congleton Park and Tatton Park, had retained their Green Flag and Green Heritage Site status.

In Cheshire East for 2024, Green Flags have been awarded to and retained by:

  • Queens Park, Crewe
  • Tatton Park, Knutsford
  • Congleton Park
  • Sandbach Park
  • Milton Park, Alsager
  • The Moor, Knutsford
  • Bollington Recreation Ground
  • Tegg's Nose Country Park, Macclesfield
  • Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve
  • Fountain Fields, Middlewich
  • Macclesfield Riverside Park

Vice chair of Cheshire East's environment and communities committee and mayor of Crewe, Cllr Dawn Clark, said: "We are very proud of our record of retaining our Green Flags across the borough.

"My sincere thanks go to all the wonderful officers and volunteers who play such a vital role in the upkeep of these sites. 

"However, what is even more pleasing is hearing from the many residents who benefit from these beautiful outdoor spaces.

"I actively encourage everyone to continue to embrace the great outdoors and enjoy them as often as possible."

Queens Park officially opened to the public in June 1888. It has been a key attraction in Crewe ever since.
