Crewe mum secures 357 Christmas Advent Calendars for town's food bank
A Crewe mum has secured 357 Christmas Advent Calendars for the town's food bank - with support from a family friend.
During the past two years, organiser Clare Pointon, has collected Christmas Advent Calendars among family, friends and work colleagues - donating to St Paul's Centre, Hightown.
The mother-of-two did this to ensure local children get something most of us take for granted in the build-up to Christmas.
This year, Mrs Pointon decided to do it again, but was cautious with the current climate - unsure if people would be able to help as much as in the previous two years.
To her surprise, so many people stepped up. She has been overwhelmed by the response.
As normal friends and family responded, but local district nurse, Emma Holding, decided to put a request out to her colleagues, friends and family for their help and support.
The family friend has helped make this years donations comfortably the biggest yet.
Mrs Pointon collected 212 calendars, with Emma and her team managing 145 which gave a grand total of 357.
Mrs Pointon said: "I am absolutely amazed and thrilled by this amount.
"357 children will receive their advent calendars in the next two weeks and this just fills my heart.
"Charity is something I really believe in.

"Having been in a situation where our families had to help us when my husband had cancer twice, his wage dramatically dropped to just sick pay.
"I had to still work full time to make sure our boys still had a home over their heads.
"When all of a sudden, your life is turned upside down and you have to fight to stay above water, anyone would do what they can to feed their children.
"At any point life can change from illness, death, break ups and all of a sudden, the foodbank maybe your only option."
The 357 Christmas Advent Calendars were delivered to Manager of St Paul's Foodbank, Alexia Stockton, on Monday morning (November 21).
Mrs Stockton was delighted with the Crewe Christmas Advent Calendar haul.
The food bank manager added: "Thank you so much for this significant contribution that will help so many children in the community."
Clare's husband, Steve Pointon, has now made a full recovery from cancer.
He has now started own business, Steve Pointon Counselling and Support, Dane Bank Avenue.
Mrs Pointon would like to say thank you to everybody who contributed - especially Emma and the District Nurse team.
She would also like to thank staff at Well Pharmacy Wistaston, Readesdale Avenue, staff at Tinks Nursery and the team at Pathways CIC.
