Cheshire Fire Service have provided an update on the Crewe Fire Station redevelopment - after its tower was completely demolished.

Crewe Fire Station's tower, Crewe Road/ Macon Way roundabout, was fully demolished on Friday (November 18) - with the site in the process of a rebuild.

Permission to demolish the existing Crewe Fire Station and replace it with a new station was granted by Cheshire East Council in November last year.

The Crewe Fire Station project has been split into three phases (Ryan Parker).

Today (November 21), Cheshire Fire Service provided an update on the redevelopment.

A spokesperson told Nub News: "Departments other than operational staff have now all re-located across Cheshire East while the building of the new fire station at Crewe takes place.

"The project has been split into three phases.

"Phase one was the Temporary Fire Station which arrived in the middle of August.

"Operational staff moved into the temporary station around the end of September.

"These staff turn out to incidents from the rear of the current site until they re-locate into the new station.

"Local residents and businesses have been kept informed of the build plans and there is support available for any potential issues that may arise through the project."

Crewe firefighters are now using the exit off Crewe Road to respond to emergencies - rather than Macon Way.

In September, Crewe Fire Station urged football fans attending Crewe Alexandra matches not to park on this exit road - commonly used on Saturday afternoons.

Demolition work has been taking place at the Crewe site since the beginning of October.

The Cheshire Fire Service spokesperson added: "Phase two of the new fire station commenced in October and involved the former station being demolished.

"Work has begun on the new station.

"It is planned that operational crews will move back into the new station in October 2023 - with all other departments moving back on site in December 2023.

Phase three is the Bungalow Upgrade. It will involve the temporary fire station being removed from the site and the community bungalow receiving an upgrade.

"The community bungalow houses the Prevention and Protection teams, admin hub and a community meeting room."

Crewe's current fire station, which opened in 1966 - no longer fits the needs of the service.

The new station will include a training tower and a training building - together with car parking.
