The Crewe and Nantwich MP has confirmed he is in the running for Chester South and Eddisbury seat - wanting to be "put forward to the final alongside other candidates."

In March, political website, Guido Fawkes, indicated Dr Kieran Mullan MP has been putting him name forward for the Chester South and Eddisbury seat.

Later that month it confirmed Dr Mullan spent a day trying to drum up support among Cheshire councillors - plotting a chicken run.

Chester South and Eddisbury is expected to be a safe Tory seat (Guido Fawkes).

On Wednesday 17 May, Guido Fawkes reported the Crewe MP has now abandoned plans for a chicken run - opening the door for a selection battle.

According to the Guido Fawkes, Dr Mullan wants a "fair and credible" selection process.

Dr Mullan said: "I have benefited from being able to speak to a wide variety of people locally (both involved and not involved in the selection process).

"I have given all the feedback I have received a great deal of thought. 

This news comes just five months after Dr Kieran Mullan confirmed he would

"I would like to feel any process that selected me was fair and credible and would have the support of members.

"I think the only way to achieve that now is to be put forward to the final alongside other candidates to allow a choice by members.

"I appreciate the time and effort many of you have put into this process to date and thank you for your time."

This news comes just five months after Dr Mullan confirmed he would "stick at it" for the Crewe and Nantwich constituency at the next general election.

Newly re-elected Crewe West Labour councillor, Cllr Connor Naismith, believes Dr Mullan is using the voters in Crewe and Nantwich.

He told Nub News: "After weeks of refusing to comment on speculation we now know Kieran Mullan is attempting to run for the hills rather than be held accountable by voters in Crewe and Nantwich.

"Of course we always knew that Dr Mullan was likely to use voters in Crewe and Nantwich as a stepping stone for his career, just as he did to the voters in the previous two constituencies he stood but failed to get elected in.

"Crewe and Nantwich deserves better than this career politician whose only aim is to climb the greasy pole within the Conservative party.

"I sincerely hope voters get the opportunity to send him packing when the time comes."

A scrap for the Chester South and Eddisbury seat is on the cards - with Dr Kieran Mullan one of the candidates (Conservatives UK).

The Crewe MP's latest decision means a scrap for the Chester South and Eddisbury seat is on the cards.

Local sources expect a number of MPs will attempt the chicken run - with Iceland managing director, Richard Walker, still getting mentioned as a potential candidate.
