Crewe man, 56, arrested for attempted shoplifting and assault of shop worker
A Crewe man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted shoplifting, assault and public order offences in the town.
On Friday 1 November, Cheshire Police received reports of an attempted shoplifter on Grand Junction Retail Park.
Around 6.20pm, a man had assaulted a member of staff and been verbally abusive to others while attempting to steal items.
Officers were deployed to the scene, locating and arresting the man in Crewe town centre.
The 56-year-old was arrested on suspicion of of listed offences. He remains in police custody.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "A male was arrested on Friday 1 November in Crewe after attempted shoplifting and assault.
"At approximately 6.20pm, we were made aware of an attempt shoplifting on the retail park in Crewe.
"The male had assaulted a member of staff and been verbally abusive to others whilst attempting to steal.
"Response patrols were dispatched and located and arrested the male in the town centre.
"The male, 56, from Crewe, has been arrested on suspicion of assault and public order offences. He remains in police custody."
