Crewe man, 40, found dead by cleaners at Cumbria holiday cottage

An inquest has opened into the death of a 40-year-old man from Crewe, who was discovered in an Airbnb holiday cottage in Casterton earlier this month.
The Crewe man was found dead by cleaners on Tuesday 4 February when they arrived to service the property.
During a hearing at Cockermouth Coroner's Court on Thursday 20 February, assistant coroner for Cumbria, Ms Margaret Taylor, provided an outline of the known circumstances surrounding his death.
The court heard the man had initially checked into the Airbnb on January 21 and was due to stay until January 28.

However, he later requested an extension and returned to the cottage on January 29. His stay was scheduled to end on February 3, with checkout at 10am.
On the morning of February 4 at around 9.10am, cleaners arrived at the property but were unable to gain access.
Concerned, they contacted the caretaker, who entered through an 'insecure' back door and discovered the man's body in the living room.
Ms. Taylor adjourned the inquest until a provisional date of July 8, 2025, pending the completion of all necessary inquiries.
Further details surrounding the Crewe man's cause of death are expected to be revealed at the final inquest hearing.
