Crewe gymnasts return in triumph from Special Olympics
Rhythmic gymnasts from an award-winning charity in Crewe have returned to the town in triumph - from the 2023 Special Olympics.
This June, Poppy Wood-Wright and Daisy Chetwood, of Hopes and Beams, Broad Street, represented Great Britain at the 2023 Special Olympics World Games in Berlin.
With support from head coach, Jane Whetnall MBE, the pair won a total of three gold medals and four silver medals.
As well as this, Poppy and Daisy won a host of fourth and fifth place ribbons.
Hopes and Beams offers inclusive sports, arts, teaching and activities for children and young adults with disabilities or additional needs.
The gymnasts and dignitaries attended a special extinguishing of a flame ceremony at Hopes and Beams on Saturday 1 June.
This allowed honoured guests and dignitaries to meet the gymnasts and hear their story.
Dignitaries included Mr Dennis Dunn (high sheriff of Cheshire) and Cllr Marilyn Houston (deputy mayor of Cheshire East Council).
Cllr Dennis Straine-Francis (Mayor of Crewe), also attended - along with singing from TheFunkyChoir.
