A Crewe councillor has called for urgent action following another collision at a West End accident hotspot junction, where emergency services attended.

Cheshire Police received reports of an incident on Frank Webb Avenue, at its Junction with Badger Avenue, on Friday 22 December.

The accident, which happened around 1:45pm, involved a purple Nissan Juke and a red SUV type vehicle.

Officers directed traffic while North West Ambulance Service and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service supported those involved.

Crewe St Barnabas Ward councillor, James Pratt (Conservative), told Nub News his concerns about the 'accident hotspot.'

He said: "I am concerned there have been several recent accidents on this junction involving multiple vehicles, with many more crashes over the years.

"In December I met with a Cheshire East Council Highways road safety officer to look at how this junction could be upgraded in terms of layout and design to improve the road safety for both drivers and pedestrians.

"It is not only an issue for drivers negotiating the junction, but also for parents and children crossing the busy road to and from Underwood West school. "

In terms of making improvements at this junction, the road safety officer recommended the junction could be remodelled with improvements for pedestrian crossing and better signage.

Crewe St Barnabas Ward councillor, James Pratt (Conservative), told Nub News his concerns about the Frank Webb Avenue 'accident hotspot' (Nub News).

Traffic calming measures and signage could be installed on Frank Webb Avenue, especially near the playground at Leighton Brook Park.

Cllr Pratt said: "I welcome the recommendations from the roads safety officer and I am keen to work to improve the road layout around this area to keep both drivers and pedestrians safe.

"These types of works do require substantial funding in order to be carried out, and are assessed by Cheshire East Council to be included in budgeting for future projects which can take some time.

"I am keen to move forward with improvements here and have discussed the issue with MP, Dr Kieran Mullan, to ask for funding from the Safer Roads Fund"

Efforts have also been made to address speeding vehicles on this section of road.

Cllr Pratt recently went out with Cheshire Police to try to tackle issues with speeding around this area.

Cheshire Police directed traffic while North West Ambulance Service and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service supported those involved in the Frank Webb Avenue collision (Nub News).

The Crewe councillor added: "I recently joined PSCO Jolley to carry out Trucam speed checks on Frank Webb Avenue.

"It was worrying vehicles were recorded at speeds of up to 44mph so further work is needed here.

"We are now looking to re-introduce a Community Speed Watch scheme, where residents can take part in speed checks in their area to increase driver and public awareness of the dangers of speeding."
