Crewe Central candidate joins local residents and MP in park clean up 'action day'

A Crewe Central by-election candidate joined local residents and several fellow business owners to clean up a newly renovated park in the West End.

Roger Morris (Conservative), Crewe and Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan and Crewe St Barnabas councillor, James Pratt (Conservative) tackled Derby Docks on Sunday 21 January.

A huge amount of litter and fly tipping was collected from Derby Docks, with around 20 bags collected.

Roger Morris, standing for Crewe Central, told Nub News: "It is great the Derby Docks playground has received major investment as part of the £825,000 Pocket Parks Project across Crewe.

"The area around the park needs more work to make sure it is kept clean and fit for local residents to use.

"I am in the area every day and I see for myself how issues like littering and fly tipping need to be tackled.

"I was keen to encourage local residents to get involved by organising this event today.

"By working together and getting stuck in we've made a real difference to the local park at Derby Docks."

The litter collected at Derby Docks mainly consisted of drinks cans and bottles.

A vacuum cleaner, cooker hob, mattress, several chairs and a shopping trolley were also identified to be removed.

Roger has worked in the family-run Crewe Motorcycle Centre, West Street, for over 35 years.

The litter collected at Derby Docks mainly consisted of drinks cans and bottles (Nub News).

He is the fourth generation to have run the shop, which was established in 1920.

During Covid-19, Crewe Motorcycle Centre was transformed into a vaccination centre where many thousands of local residents got vaccinated.

Roger said: "I hope residents will support me in the election on Thursday 8 February so I can do more to tackle issues that affect the residents who live in Crewe Central. 

"I want to work to bring the area back to how it used to be.
