CARERS at Belong Crewe have had their hard work during the pandemic recognised at the Great North West Care Awards.

Their employer also won a regional Social Care Hero Team Award in the regional awards.

The care company's handling of the pandemic across its seven villages and home care services in the North West and Midlands was applauded by an independent panel of judges.

They praised Belong for its "culture of transparency" and innovating to promote the wellbeing of residents and colleagues during very challenging times.

Strong management, the early procurement of PPE and innovation in using technology were all highlighted along with the dementia care specialist's commitment to creative activities to provide a community atmosphere for everyone.

Picking up the Housing with Care Award, the Front of House Team at the Brookhouse Drive village were described by judges as "outcome focused and driven to provide the highest quality service to individuals, supporting them to remain independent in their own home and as part of the wider community".

Support worker Jodie Challinor was highly commended in the Care Home Worker Award category for her enthusiasm and positivity, while Sharon Bull was highly commended in the Workforce Development Award category for her passion progressing the careers of colleagues.

Both of Belong's wins now go forward to the Great British Care Awards national finals in September.

General manager at Belong Crewe Cheryl Davies said: "We're delighted to win such prestigious awards which recognise the efforts of our colleagues. It really is a testament to their hard work and dedication through what has been an incredibly challenging period."

Since the coronavirus outbreak the not-for-profit operator has been re-accredited as a Gold Investors in People.
